The history of Audi is marked by various events that go back to the 19th century. In 1899, a person named August Horch marked the first chapter in the history of Audi by establishing the Horch Company in Cologne, Germany, and this was the beginning of this Bern. Horch Company produced its first car. It was produced in 1901. 10 years after the establishment of the company, following a disagreement between the managers, Horch withdrew from his company and started a new company called Audi in Zwickau, Germany.

Horch could not use his name again for another company. Therefore, with the advice of his friends, he chose the name Audi. Originally, the word Horch in German means listening, which is equivalent to Audi in Latin. A year later, the first car of this company was the Fitton Sport Type A, which entered the production line, and immediately after that, the Fitton Sport Type B was introduced. Both of these cars were very successful. Audi cars were very successful even in car racing. In 1920, Horch left Audi and took a high-ranking position in the Ministry of Transport, but remained a member of the board of directors.

During his management, Horch made Audi a well-known brand all over the world. This company was the first car company to produce a car called Audi Type K in 1921, whose steering wheel was on the left side, because it had a better view. He gave it to the driver and it was safer.

It is interesting to know that the choice of four rings for the Audi logo is not accidental. In fact, these four rings symbolize the merger and union of four different companies, Audi, Horch, Wanderer and DKW. In 1932, these four companies merged together and created the Automobile Union, and four rings were chosen for the company’s logo. One of the interesting things about this brand’s logo is its resemblance to the Olympic logo. By the way, the International Olympic Committee filed a complaint about The similarity of the Audi logo and the Olympic logo was presented to the court, which did not reach the conclusion, and Audi was able to keep its four-ring logo.

Before the Second World War, the Automobile Union used its four-ring logo only for racing cars, and the rest of the companies used their own brand logos. With the start of the Second World War, Audi, like the rest of the world’s car manufacturers, stopped producing their cars. and began to produce war vehicles.

In 1964, Volkswagen acquired the majority of Audi shares. Currently, the majority of Audi shares belong to Volkswagen.
